Spira Performing Arts Center
Wingårdh Arkitektkontor AB
Jönköping, Sweden
Spira Performing Arts Center contains four different performing arts venues; a main concert hall, a theater, a black box, and a café stage. The building is situated on an artificial peninsula jutting out into Lake Munksjön, in the center of downtown Jönköping.

In celebration of Sweden's glassmaking region the elevations are

The four main halls are strung together along the foyer that
opens to the west and the sun as it sets over the lake. Workshops
for everyday activities are located to the east. The interior is
finished in warm wood, with the concert hall wrapped in wood
beneath a starry night sky.

Glass artist Ingegerd Råman designed the lobby's pendant
lamps "Ouattro 117" - a reference to the many etched surfaces that
diffuse its light.

Artist Milo Lavén designed an
outdoor art installation, the "Soundflower," that
reacts to the footsteps in its proximity by
emitting light and sound.

Another new public building will eventually be located next to
Spira on the east side.
