Duccio Malagamba -
Brasilia
/Duccio MalagambaA mixture of vast open spaces and magnificent monuments contrasting with calm residential areas."
When the city of Brasilia turned 50, photographer Duccio
Malagamba travelled to the Brazilian capital to capture the
everyday life of this super-scaled utopia with its grand avenues
laid out by Lucio Costa and dramatic modernist buildings by Oscar
Niemeyer.
Duccio Malagamba's reportage was meant to portray this curious
mixture of vast open spaces and magnificent monuments contrasting
with calm residential areas, discovering new facets of the young
Brazilian capital. As an architect, he was interested to see the
worldwide known textbook buildings with his own eyes and observe
the way they blend in with the city everyday life.
For Duccio the major task of an architectural photographer is to
inspire the observer rather than being concerned about his
objectivity. He photographs with studied concentration, analyzing
the subject slowly and meticulously. The results are "architectural
reportages," rather than a series of separate shots, that aim
to transmit a complex range of emotions, experiences and thoughts
and are intended to provide a full, multi-faceted view that "tells"
the viewer about the buildings.
