José Montilla, President of Catalunya, placed the first stone of the La Llotja Theatre and Congress Center on March 9th.
The large stone building, with its massive cantilevers, seem to be sprouting from the Spanish earth providing shaded areas on the square. When events are taking place the stairs of the adjacent building serve as a tribune.

The building is composed of separate volumes that are linked together by sound-absorbing foyers. A ramp leads to the main foyer and entrances to the Theater and Congress Hall as well as a multifunctional hall. Additional conference rooms and the La Llotja Lounge are reached by a staircase from the foyer.

The roof garden, with its flower covered pergolas and panoramic view of the city and the Segre River, keeps the building cool in the summer and provides for an additional area for conference guests.
