Because of Stavanger being a typical mid-size European city, with relatively low buildings, the jury was looking for a design that would set the standards for further development in the region and, without  detracting from the surroundings, be a signature building.  ”I boks” (meaning "all ready"), according to the jury, does this superbly.

The building is situated in the northernmost part of the site which allows room for a large amphitheatre in the southern part and, at the same time, improves the connection between the Bjergsted area and the city in a very successful way. The small bay in front of of the Concert House is perfect for smaller boats, larger boats will continue to use the quay.

The design incorporates two auditoriums, foyer, offices and practice rooms.

Auditorium 1, the Main Concert Hall, will seat 1,500.
Auditorium 2, designed for electronically enforced music, will seat 900 and, when the seats are removed, standing room for 1,600 to 1,900.
