Moore, Ruble, Yudell
Since the founding of Moore Ruble Yudell with Charles Moore in 1977, principals John Ruble and Buzz Yudell have built a varied body of work ranging from private residences to multi million dollar institutional, civic, and mixed use developments. The initial goal of Moore Ruble Yudell was to have an intensive collaboration among the principals, and as the firm has grown this idea has remained its highest priority, with the collaborative spirit extending to include project staff and clients. The principals pioneered the use of client and community workshops in the design process. Services including master planning and urban design, and the design of residential, commercial, academic buildings, and cultural and civic facilities.
The firm has received numerous major awards for design excellence, and in 1992 was honored by the California Council of the American Institute of Architects as Firm of the Year. Publications include the new monograph Moore Ruble Yudell: Campus and Community, and three recent books: a special edition of Architecture + Urbanism (A+U), August 1992; Academy Editions' monograph Moore Ruble Yudell, published in 1993 by Ernst and Sohn; and Moore Ruble Yudell: Houses and Housing, distributed in 1994 by AIA Press.

John Ruble, FAIA
John Ruble graduated from the University of Virginia in 1969, and began his career in architecture and planning that year as a volunteer town planner for the Peace Corps in Tunisia. From that remarkable experience grew a number of special concerns: a profound interest in culture and community, and an awareness of architecture as a response to site and climate. After three years of practice with Jules Gregory in Princeton, and a Masters degree at UCLA, he began his collaboration with Charles Moore and Buzz Yudell in 1976. Since then he has also enjoyed visiting critic appointments at Cornell University and UCLA. As principal in charge, his work at Moore Ruble Yudell has included St. Matthew's Church, Tegel Harbor in Berlin, the Walter A. Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, master planning for the new Tacoma campus of the University of Washington, and the new United States Embassy in Berlin, Germany.
Buzz Yudell, FAIA
Buzz Yudell has been active in both architectural practice and education since his graduation from the Yale School of Architecture. As a principal designer with Moore Ruble Yudell Architects and Planners, he has worked internationally in architecture and urban design. His interest in creating architecture, which in turn enhances our sense of community, has manifested itself in numerous projects in university and civic settings. A commitment to the involvement of communities in their own environments has led to extensive involvement in participatory planning projects. The firm's work has been recognized internationally through numerous publications and awards. Recent competition winning projects include the master plan for Karow Nord, a new town on the edge of Berlin; the Maryland Center for the Performing Arts; and the new United States Embassy in Berlin, Germany.
