Jeff/Jeff Towers

Los Angeles, California

While in LA I visited Eric Owen Moss in Culver City and you can look forward to a lot of exciting features from his office. First the Jeff/Jeff Towers; one of the latest LA projects.

The Jeff/Jeff Towers, now in construction, are part of the "Samitaur Complex" which includes a building for Cineon Kodak (already constructed).
Support from the Los Angeles Mayor's office has led to a major change in the general plan for the site, most notably a lifting of the height limits. These towers rise out of an existing sawtooth warehouse which will be completely renovated to become the circulation between the buildings along with space for retail and cafe facilities. Parking facilities will also be constructed to serve the new tenants.

The office space itself is not typical. The larger floor to ceiling heights (22 feet) are designed to create a loft-style feel, an atmosphere less constrained than the usual tower project and more appropriate for the type of tenants, design and production companies, expected to occupy the building. The ceiling heights will also give the tenants the possibility of adding mezzanine levels.
A steel column grid carries the major structural load of the building with the curvilinear steel carrying the wind and earthquake load.

The site is highly prominent, rising out of the corner created by a sharp turn on Jefferson Boulevard and is adjacent to La Cienega Boulevard; a major north/south thoroughfare.
