The new Museum of World Culture is located at the foot of a hill, at the southeastern edge of central Göteborg, adjacent to Sweden’s most visited tourist attraction, the Liseberg Amusement Park.
The design by Brisac Gonzalez Architects, a simple compact container uniting the legacy of mankind with the contemporary, includes an auditorium, a research center, a library, a restaurant and administrative offices.

The architect’s concept consists of a clearly marked difference between the solid west facade, containing the gallery spaces along the street, and the open facade towards the hill where public activities will take place.
The open transparent facade will allow museum visitors to experience the exterior landscape from different vantage points, and also reveal the interior to people visiting the adjacent Liseberg Park.

The building services are located in a vertical zone, between the solid west and the open east facades, with the  circulation weaving its way through these three elements.
Moving upwards in the building the elements, which were seen from below, are gradually perceived from above, creating a sequence of reference points throughout the building, with alternating views of the hill, the atrium, and the museum. The materials are simple; concrete, glass , steel, wood and linoleum.

The Museum of World Culture, with the Museum of Ethnography in Gothenburg, will be the exhibition platform for the collections of the Peoples Museum of Ethnography, the Mediterranean Museum, and the East Asian Museum, all presently located in Stockholm, and a forum for International and  local events.
