Henning Larsen the man and the architect
To celebrate his own 76th birthday, August 20th, Danish architect Henning Larsen gave away gifts. His newly established Birthday Fund gave its first grant, Danish Kroner 50,000 (US$ 8,000), to a young architect noted for architecture of quality.
The grant went to Bjarke Ingels; a young architect whose winning project for Copenhagen’s New Suburb is currently on view at Danish Centre for Architecture - Gammel Dok. Earlier this year Bjarke Ingels won the Danish competition IT & Architecture. He has worked for OMA and other architecture studios.
The jury members were architects Merete Ahnfeldt-Mollerup and Kent Martinussen, cand.mag. Lone Backe (Henning Larsen’s wife), attorney Hans Christoffersen and, at the head of the table, Henning Larsen.
Henning Larsen’s grant will be given each year on his birthday.
