Opera House
Copenhagen, Denmark
The new Copenhagen Opera House is located on the waterfront on Holmen, the former Royal Naval Dockyard.
A gift to the city from Danish shipping magnate Sir Mærsk McKinney Møller, the Opera House will be named after Queen Margrethe II.

The Opera House shares the area with 17th century red brick warehouses, barracks and foundries, that now house the Royal Academy schools specializing in drama, film, design, architecture, and music. Galleries, restaurants and new housing also occupies the vast area.

The focal point of the Opera House will be the large, floating roof with its 32 meter long cantilever covering the four-story curved Foyer. A 35 meter wide Arrival Plaza will connect the Opera House to the quay side. The main entrance to the Opera House Foyer will be through revolving doors.
Two 17 meter wide canals will be dug on either side of the Opera House to create an Island for the Opera itself.

The heart of the Opera House will be the Main Stage with the back stage and four side stages with seating for close to 1,400 guests in the Auditorium. The Royal Ballet will also use the new house.

The Orchestra Pit will be flexible to accommodate up to 110 musicians.
The Danish Royal Orchestra's Rehearsal Room will be located five floors below the Auditorium - 13 meters below sea level.
The Opera and Ballet will each have two rehearsal rooms. Smaller rehearsal rooms will be available for musicians and chorus. Dressing rooms, offices and workshops will be housed in the wings, scenery storage facilities in the basement.
The Studio Stage, with its entrance facing Holmen, will seat approximately 200 guests.
