The former U-boat assembly plant at The Royal Dockyards.
Before leaving Copenhagen for Berlin, Prague and Vienna I visited the construction site at The Royal Dockyards where Søren Robert Lund has designed new offices for high tech firm Netbureau Araneum. Søren Robert Lund is one of the architects in the new Taschen book "40 architects under 40".

The ground floor with the supports holding the lower "Deck".
The water extended into the ground floor of the building, now a concrete floor where the U-boats were assembled.
The project involves the remodeling of the assembly plant and the addition of two smaller connecting buildings. Denmark did not construct U-boats, the parts would arrive and get assembled at the Dockyard.

Looking up at the lower and upper "Decks".
Lund has kept the industrial feeling of the former U-boat plant by exposing heavy details and by having the floors (decks) constructed at a shipyard and literally sliding them into place...

Two pages in Søren Robert Lund's sketchbook.
I will tell you a lot more about the new building and the Royal Dockyards in an upcoming feature for Design Architecture.
Right now I am getting on the road and I can't wait for the opening of the new Jean Nouvel building , The Golden Angel, in Prague... I will tell you all about it ..... and also about a lot of other things I find on my way....
