Straight geometry - Good economy

Because of the tight economy and the short time allowed for the project Vandkunsten chose a prefabricated concrete construction. The facades are almost entirely floor to ceiling glass. The cedar louvers covering the facades lets in daylight and shields the building from the sun and rain.
The plan is square with two double height "Streets" that split the square into other squares and rectangles. The "Streets" cross in a double height "Square".

With very few variations in the basic construction, the architects have managed to design a varied and exciting open interior.
A pool of water in the "Square" contribute to the exciting atmosphere inside the building.

The materials are simple, the colors few. The walls are white, the steel stairs graphite grey.
The same material, Merbaum, covering all the floor areas tie the separate parts of the building together.
The "Street" floors are covered in black asphalt. Neon pipes are set in where the "Streets" meet the walls.

The transparency of the facades give the large 6.000 square meter building a feeling of lightness. CAD-drawing showing the building illuminated after sunset.
