Villa Nilsson

Arnashalvon, Varberg
Sweden

The beautiful Villa Nilsson in Arnashalvon, completed in 1992, is set on a hillside with a dramatic view of the sea. The view is revealed gradually through a sequence of paths in the landscape, as in the Japanese tradition, culminating in a magnificent full view of the sea from the livingroom and the cherry wood terrace, where one also can feel the sea breeze.

The entrance is reached by gentle gray stone steps that seem to be sculpted into the rocks. The view is revealed gradually through a sequence of paths in the landscape, as in the Japanese tradition, culminating in a magnificent full view of the sea from the livingroom and the cherry wood terrace, where one also can feel the breeze from the sea. The Villa Nilsson is a house full of exciting design with unusually subtle detailing.

In the livingroom everything is planned for the contemplation of the sea; so close at hand. Skylights allow for light to enter from the opposite side, creating an unusual effect.

The gray limestone appears in its natural state throughout the interiors, creating a counterpoint to the strict geometry of the “artificial” architecture of the house.

The sensorial exercises are repeated in other details like the figures sculpted in the core of the steel beams, throwing mysterious shadows on the wall, which create an interplay of overlapping surfaces.
