London Garden Bridge Gains Momentum

Some may recognise Thomas Heatherwick from architectural Ted talks or as the man behind the UK Pavillion design at the 2010 Shanghai Expo. Well he's certainly keeping busy; his latest project, a garden bridge for London. Images released this week show the lush green footbridge spanning the River Thames, 367 meters long the bridge will be an oasis for Londoners on their daily commute. Due for completion in 2017 the bridge has moved onto the public consultation phase.

Astana World EXPO 2017 Winner is... AS+GG

With over 100 competition entries including all the architectural big dogs, AS+GG have won the rights for the huge 173.4 hectare area in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Based on the Expo's theme "Future Energy" the first phase of buildings due for completion in 2017 will include sustainable exposition buildings, art and performance spaces, retail areas, pavilions, a hotel and residential and office spaces.

Organised within a "smart grid", the buildings will become generators of their own power leading the way in sustainable architectural design.

Boasting vertical garden walls, glazed facades, biometric technologies and old Peranakan style retail areas, the terminal slated for 2017 will accommodate approximately 16 million passengers a year.
