What's New on the Bookshelves? November 2014 edition

November 27, 2014 /

Once again, we've taken a look at the most noteworthy new book releases, ranging from beautiful monographs on Aalto and Ray and Charles Eames to an insightful issue of CLOG dedicated to Rem Koolhaas and a thoroughly researched and engagingly written new take on the building of the ultimate architectural icon of Ancient Greece.

First off, Eames: Beautiful Details is a visual celebration of the work and life of the Eames and a testament to the lasting value of good design, while Alvar Aalto: Second Nature offers comprehensive and current overview of Aalto's oeuvre as an architect, designer and urban planner.

Then, the young, but consistently brillant quarterly CLOG offers a variety of different perspectives on the work of one of the most forward-thinking practitioners within the field with their latest issue, simply titled Rem.

The meticulously researched The Parthenon Enigma by Joan Breton Connelly challenges the conventional wisdom on the first architectural icon of the Western world, the Parthenon.

Finally, After the Manifesto brings together architects and scholars to revisit the past, present and future of the manifesto and Arab Contemporary is the second chapter in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art's Architecture, Culture and Identity series, following 2012's New Nordic, which explores architecture in specific regions

Happy reading.
