STUDIO WORKS - Los Angeles is a partnership firm based in the state of California. Founded in 1969, STUDIO WORKS has gained 26 years of experience in the fields of architecture, planning, and design. Robert Mangurian, Architect continues as a founding principal, and was joined by an additional principal, Mary-Ann Ray in 1985.

STUDIO WORKS has been recognized for the high quality and inventiveness of its design work in numerous publications and competitions both locally and internationally, and has received national design awards for many of these ground breaking projects.

 

Robert Mangurian

Robert Mangurian is an internationally known architect and nationally respected and influential educator currently working in Los Angeles. He is a principal and founder of the firm Studio Works and has served as the Director of the Graduate Program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture since 1987. His training in architecture is from the University of California at Berkely. Mr. Mangurian has held academic appointments since 1969 at institutions including the Southern California Institute of Architecture, UCLA, Rice University, Harvard University, Washington University, and Tulane University. In addition, he has lectured extensively over the past fifteen years on theoretical aspects of architecture and their practical application in work conducted by StudioWorks.

The work of Mr. Mangurian and Studio Works has been published on numerous occasions both nationally and internationally, and the constructed and non-constructed projects have received prestigious awards. He has been awarded the Rome Prize, several NEA Awards including a Collaborative Fel-lowship for work with artist Vito Acconci, and many Progressive Architecture Design Awards and Citations. Robert Mangurian has acted as a consultant for Richard Meier and the Getty on the $750 million Getty Fine Arts Center- involving three-dimensional state of the art modelling facilities for study of the buildings and extensive landscape.

Mr. Mangurian has executed an immense body of very broad ranging work in architecture and planning- inciuding furniture, residences, large building projects, civic centers, and master plans.

 

Mary-Ann Ray

Mary-Ann Ray was born in Seattle, Washington, where in 1981, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Washington. She went on to receive a Masters degree in Architecture from Princeton University in 1987, and the Rome Prize of 1987-1988. Ms. Ray's professional experience includes work with Michael Graves, Architect, and James Turrell, Artist. Currently, she is a principal, with Robert Mangurian, at Studio Works in Los Angeles. Studio Works has been involved with projects ranging from furniture, buildings, publications, and urban design to a major work of archaeology- an in progress new plan for Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli. Ms. Ray has lectured widely, has taught at Rice University as visiting Wortham Professor and Yale University as visiting Saarinen Professor, and continues as a full time graduate design studio and seminar faculty member at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) in Los Angeles.
