BRIAN MURPHY Hopper Residence - 1987 Venice
GROUND FLOOR To provide a shelter sensitive to the neighborhood at a nominal cost which would be capable of exhibiting large works of art. To render a legitimate stage with lights, fly loft, green and dressing rooms, bath and full media back-up. An open-air court to accomodate more large scale art. LOFT ABOVE To provide an apartment which would allow maximum sight lines for a revolving collection of contemporary and ethnic art along with a diverse range of interior appointments. A most demanding client who was always clear about the unusualness of his program. Through this vision he remained open and even encouraged pushing the building to these limits. The end product is a tribute to a tenacious spirit and passion for the arts coupled with a positive belief that "we only live once"...."nothing ventured, nothing gained." |
