This weekend a major exhibition, showcasing a portfolio of current and recent work by Zaha Hadid Architects, opened at the site of the future Contemporary Art Centre in Rome's Flaminia district.
Within an installation that replicates the scheme of the Contemporary Art Centre, itself, the exhibition comprises working models, paintings, animations and computer renderings, together with samples and prototypes of furniture and product design by Zaha Hadid Architects.
Projects in show include the recently awarded Temporary Guggenheim Museum Zaha Hadid Architects. Temporary Guggenheim Museum in Tokyo and BMW Central Plant Building Zaha Hadid Architects. Central Building - BMW Plant in Leipzig, as well as the Phaeno Science Centre in Wolfsburg and Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati (both in construction).
There is also a retrospective of past projects, including the design for an Art and Media Centre in Dusseldorf (1993) and the Vitra Fire Station (completed 1994).
The show gives a comprehensive sense of the work of the office, ranging from urban scale to products and interiors. It is an exciting preview of the design for the Contemporary Art Centre, offering a virtual experience of this dynamic building and a foretaste of upcoming work.
