ELEMENTAL is a Chilean based architecture practice who focus on architecture work of public interest and social impact. ELEMENTAL´s director, Alejandro Aravena, was awarded this years Pritzker Prize and appointed director of the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale. ELEMENTAL first made a name for themselves in 2004 with Quinta Monroy, a social housing project in the very centre of Iquique, Chile. The site had been illegally occupied by 97 families since the 1960's, who they rehoused on the same 5,000 square metre site.
Sited on a remote strip of land between a lake and a eucalyptus forest, Guna House by Pezo von Ellrichshausen effectively combines a rigorous geometric approach with a thorough knowledge of site, materiality, and program into a coherent architectural statement.
The concept of displacement and fluidity is reflected in the circulation, with stairs, ramps and emergency tubes, playing leading roles in the architectonic space.
