Parish Church and Complex
Massimiliano Fuksas
Foligno, Italy
The new Parish Church, located in Foligno, Umbria, is a
monolith of pure geometry.
There are two main architectural elements that are identified with
the functions of the religious center. The first element, the
Church building, consists of two rectangles inserted into one
another.

The exterior volume of the Church building defines the limits of the main congregation space. Both volumes are connected through a few elements (in the shape of a truncated pyramid), which create a series of openings on the walls and bring light to the inside of the building.

The second element, also rectangular in shape but long and low,
is home to the Sacristy, the Pastoral Ministry of Local and Casa
Canonica. A third volume, containing the chapel for daily use,
connects the two.
Spirituality and meditation joined together in a play of natural
light entering horizontally and vertically, drawing a dialogue with
the sky.

The exterior sculpture "Cross" was designed by Italian artist
Enzo Cucchi. The 13.5 meter tall totem is constructed of cement and
white marble from Carrara.

Model
Italian artist Mimmo Paladino created the 14 Stations of the
Cross, a series of 14 pictures or carvings portraying events in the
Passion of Christ, from his condemnation by Pontius Pilate to his
entombment.
