A book about the Nordic House, Alvar Aalto and his relationship with Iceland

"The Nordic House, Alvar Aalto and Iceland" deals with one of the most beautiful and best known buildings in the country, and about its architect, Alvar Aalto. The book covers the story of the Nordic House and deals with its artistic merit. It also contains interesting descriptions of the first years, of Nordic House activities and events and illustrates how significant this building has been for Icelandic cultural life during the last thirty years. Experts indicate how features that characterise Aalto's design and architectural style manifest themselves in the Nordic House and comparisons are made with some of his other work. A particularly valuable contribution to this book is all the first hand experience recounted by those who met and dealt with Alvar Aalto, experience that has not previously been committed to print. Aalto's work in Iceland has never been specifically researched as such, nor has it been dealt with in as comprehensive a manner as in this publication. It is therefore unique to be able to offer a readable book on this subject that appeals equally to students, visitors to the Nordic House and to those interested in architecture and in Alvar Aalto's work. The authors are Dr. Gylfi fi. Gíslason, the writer Hjörtur Pálsson, the architects Ilona Lehtinen and Pétur H. Ármannsson, Dr. Ásdís Ólafsdóttir and Jóhanna Tryggvadóttir, manager.
The book is published in two editions, one in Icelandic and Danish and the other in Finnish and English.
