New Headquarters of Reykjavik Art Museum Reykjavik, Iceland

In the spring of 2000 the Reykjavik Art Museum will move into new headquarters in a converted warehouse space in the central section of Hafnarhusid (Harbour House), a 1930's landmark building in the cetre of Reykjavik. The new museum is designed by the Icelandic architecture firm Studio Granda, well known for its prize winning designs for Reykjavik City Hall (1988 - 92) and Supreme Court of Iceland (1993 - 96). It will include 1700sqm. of gallery space for permanent and temporary art exhibitions, a multi-purpose assembly room, a library and a cafeteria overlooking Reykjavik harbour. After 2000, one section of the museum will be devoted to the work of the Paris-based Icelandic artist Err—, who in 1989 donated over 2000 works to the City of Reykjavik.
