Architect: Hannes Kr. Davidsson (1916-1995)

The Icelandic writer Gunnar Gunnarsson (1889-1975) lived in Denmark between 1907 and 1939. There he became one of the most popular writers of the period with such book as Af Borgerslaegtens Historie (1912-14), Kirken paabjerget (1923-28) and Advent (1937). In 1939, he moved to Iceland, where he built a large farmhouse at Skriduklaustur in E. Iceland, designed by the German architect Fritz Hsger. After the war, Gunnar moved to Reykjavik with his wife, Franziska, where they built a new house to spend their retirement years. The house at Dyngjuvegur is situated at a top of a hill with a splendid view over the city and the surrounding mountains. It is an early work of the Icelandic architect Hannes Kr. Davidsson, who was an important proponent of the Modern Movement in Iceland during the 1950's and 60's. The house is now the seat of The Writers Association of Iceland and can bevisited by appointment during office hours.
