Iceland

In connection with the Kolonihaven exhibition in Reykjavik - European City of Culture 2000 , the Icelandic Association of Architects organised a competition among its members for the design of an Icelandic contribution to Kolonihaven/Gardhusab¾r.
The Icelandic "house" was built in full-scale during the exhibition.

A pavilion for the Icelandic seasons to represent the dual nature of Iceland's climate and its people. The lower part is an enclosed space where one can retreat during the long, dark winter days - to be alone or with a loved one, to sit in front of the fire-place, to read, think or whatever.
The upper part with its transparent dome is for coming out and enjoying the midnight sun, stars and northern lights.
