Welcome to arcspace 2001
The first week of the new Millennium we are cleaning "house" and preparing a lot of exciting new material for you.
Andrea di Pietro della Gondola known as "Palladio" was born almost 500 years ago, yet "The Four Books of Architecture", his master work explaining his architectural principles with meticulous woodcut illustrations drawn from his own works to illustrate the text, is still used by architects today.
As the first "Architect's Studio" 2001 exhibition we are extremely pleased to be able to show you Giovanni Giaconi's extraordinary drawings, suffused with color, that beautifully depict the beauty of Palladian architecture.
One of the 20th Century Master Architects, Alvar Aalto, was greatly influenced by Italy's architecture and visited Italy regularly since the early 1920's. We dug into the EC archives and found a wonderful selection of Aalto buildings we are getting ready for next week.
Our new "The Camera" exhibition is with British architecture photographer Paul Raftery who is based in Paris. Next up will be Virgile Simon Bertrand; a French photographer based in Hong Kong.

Bagsv¾rd Community Church
My first feature for Design Architecture pays tribute to Jørn Utzon, the great Danish architect, and Bagsværd Community Church, his most important project in Denmark.
Upcoming features from Germany, Czech Republic, Israel, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, the US and many more....
In the early spring, when the snow has melted, I will start driving southwards to report from France, Spain and Portugal.
The Kolonihaven exhibition of models and drawings will open in Brno, the Czech Republic, in April 2001. We will be inviting a Czech architect to join the Kolonihaven group of Internationally renown architects. Brno is very close to Vienna so you will be getting news from Austria at the same time.
At the end of January I will be returning the Frank Gehry "The Architect's Studio" exhibition to Los Angeles after its extended Henry Art Gallery venue. This will give me a chance to report from the "left" coast again!
Good luck to all of you who have registered for the Treehouse competition.
All last minute questions should be addressed to David Greenberg. (intreehousecomp@yahoo.com)
