Before flying off to my "Tanzania Meeting" in London I wanted to stay one night chez Jean-Marie Amat at the Saint-James Hotel, designed by Jean Nouvel.

Situated 20 minutes from Bordeaux in the most beautiful natural surroundings Jean Marie Amat (world reknown chef) has created a dream-like place; combining the pleasures of taste with the magic of a place.

The hotel consists of four small houses connected in the back by an open air gallery. The building are recovered with weathered steel boards to resemble old tobacco barns (drying-sheds).

The 18 rooms differ in size and concept but each has a magnificent view of the Garonne Valley.
The decor is elegant and straight forward; plastered walls and beds of light wood harmonize with the white slipcovers on the furniture.

Had dinner at le "Bistroy", also designed by Jean Nouvel.
The aluminum building with its rough walls and tablecloths of paper and linen napkins combined with great wine and the creative, original cuisine by Jean-Marie Amat, made it a very seductive experience.
