Symposium
Reimagining Grand Avenue
Los Angeles, California

"The symposium brought leading architectural minds together with people who live here to voice their opinions and creativity, and to contribute to the design, function and culture of the rebirth of Los Angeles' Bunker Hill."
Richard Weinstein

The gathering of international architects was held at the Japan American Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 13.

The panel, assembled by Bunker Hill, LLC, included architects Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid with associate Patrick Schumacher, Harry Cobb, Kevin Daly and associates Olivier Boissiere and Emmanuel Blamont representing Jean Nouvel.

The architects joined local architecture students and Southern California residents in a unique symposium to discuss the $1.2 billion revitalization plans for the cultural heart of Los Angeles - the Grand Avenue project.
The symposium was moderated by Richard Weinstein, UCLA professor of architecture and urban design.

Primarily regarded as a place for business and commerce, downtown Los Angeles often has been overlooked as a place to live and as a destination for entertainment.

The Grand Avenue development will add new excitement for an increasing number of people opting to live downtown by building on existing venues such as the Music Center of Los Angeles County, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), REDCAT Theater and educational institutions like the Colburn School of Performing Arts and the soon-to-be-built High School for the Visual and Performing Arts.
